The Race to Build the World’s Most Powerful Computer

Today’s computers are incredibly powerful. They can process financial data, support artificial intelligence, stream high-definition video and complete millions of calculations in seconds. But even the fastest traditional computers struggle with certain highly complex problems.

That is where quantum computing comes in. Quantum computing could become one of the most important technological developments after artificial intelligence. Companies including IonQ, Quantinuum, Rigetti Computing, Infleqtion and D-Wave Quantum are competing to build practical quantum systems. But which quantum computing company has the strongest technology? And which quantum computing stock could become the long-term winner?

           What Is Quantum Computing?

Quantum computing is a form of computing that uses quantum bits, or qubits, to process information. Traditional computers use bits that represent either a zero or a one. Quantum computers use qubits, which can behave differently and potentially evaluate complex possibilities more efficiently. This does not mean quantum computers will replace laptops or smartphones. Instead, they are being developed to solve certain problems that may be too difficult or time-consuming for traditional computers.

           Potential quantum computing applications include:

Quantum computing is still an emerging technology. High error rates, expensive hardware and difficulty scaling remain major challenges.

What Are the Best-Known Quantum Computing Companies?

Five of the most widely followed pure-play quantum computing companies are:

            IonQ

            Quantinuum

            Rigetti Computing

            Infleqtion

            D-Wave Quantum

Each company is developing quantum technology differently. That makes the sector difficult to evaluate because investors are not simply comparing companies. They are also comparing competing scientific approaches.

IonQ: Building a Broader Quantum Ecosystem

IonQ uses trapped-ion quantum computing technology.Trapped-ion systems use individual charged atoms as qubits. This approach is designed to produce stable and highly accurate quantum operations. IonQ has also expanded beyond quantum computing hardware. The company has pursued opportunities involving quantum networking, sensing, satellite communications and chip manufacturing. This broader strategy could help IonQ build a more complete quantum technology ecosystem rather than relying on one product.

IonQ is one of the most recognizable publicly traded quantum computing companies. Investors may be attracted to its trapped-ion technology, expanding business strategy and efforts to become more vertically integrated.

However, IonQ must still prove that it can scale its systems and convert technological progress into sustainable commercial growth.

Quantinuum: Combining Quantum Hardware and Software

Quantinuum also uses trapped-ion technology. One of Quantinuum’s key strengths is its focus on both quantum hardware and quantum software. Powerful quantum computers will require software that allows companies and researchers to use them effectively.

Quantinuum is attempting to build a complete platform that includes quantum computing systems, development tools, cybersecurity products and enterprise applications.

Quantinuum is frequently recognized for its quantum computing accuracy and comprehensive software capabilities.

Its long-term success may depend on whether it can turn its technological leadership into scalable products and meaningful customer adoption.

           Rigetti Computing: Using Superconducting Qubits

Rigetti Computing uses superconducting qubits. Superconducting quantum processors are electronic circuits that can be created using manufacturing processes related to the semiconductor industry. This could provide a path toward scaling quantum chips. However, these systems must operate at temperatures close to absolute zero. That requires specialized and expensive cooling equipment.

Rigetti offers investors exposure to one of the most common approaches to quantum computing.

The company’s opportunity depends on improving accuracy, reducing errors and successfully scaling its superconducting quantum processors.

D-Wave Quantum: Focused on Quantum Annealing

D-Wave Quantum has taken a different approach from many of its competitors. The company is known for quantum annealing, a form of quantum computing designed to solve specific optimization problems. Optimization technology can potentially be used in areas such as scheduling, logistics, manufacturing and resource allocation.

D-Wave’s technology may offer more immediate commercial applications than some universal quantum computing systems.

However, quantum annealing is different from the fault-tolerant quantum computers that companies such as IonQ, Quantinuum and Rigetti are attempting to develop.

Infleqtion: An Emerging Quantum Technology Company

Infleqtion is developing quantum technologies designed for practical commercial and government applications. The company’s work extends across areas such as quantum computing, sensing and precision technology.

Infleqtion gives investors exposure to a broader quantum technology platform. Its future will depend on its ability to scale its systems, win customers and compete against larger or better-known quantum computing companies.

Which Quantum Computing Company Has the Best Technology?

There is not yet a definitive answer. IonQ and Quantinuum are known for trapped-ion technology and high levels of accuracy.

Rigetti is pursuing superconducting qubits, which may benefit from manufacturing methods connected to the semiconductor industry. D-Wave is focused on quantum annealing and specific optimization applications. Infleqtion is developing a broader collection of quantum technologies. Each approach has potential advantages and limitations. The winning technology may be the one that achieves the best combination of accuracy, scalability, speed, affordability and commercial usefulness.

What Is the Best Quantum Computing Stock?

The best quantum computing stock depends on an investor’s risk tolerance, investment thesis and view of the underlying technology.

An investor who believes trapped-ion systems will win may prefer IonQ or Quantinuum. Someone who believes superconducting quantum chips will scale more effectively may favor Rigetti. An investor looking for more immediate optimization applications may be more interested in D-Wave. Others may prefer Infleqtion’s broader exposure to quantum technologies. The larger problem is that quantum computing remains highly speculative. It may take years before the industry produces large-scale commercial revenue. That makes selecting one winning quantum computing stock extremely difficult.

Why Quantum Xtreme on Autopilot Takes a Broader Approach

Quantum Xtreme on Autopilot is designed to provide exposure to the broader quantum computing investment theme.

Instead of relying entirely on one company or one type of quantum technology, the strategy can participate across multiple businesses connected to the growth of the industry.

This approach is based on a simple idea: Quantum computing may become a major technological breakthrough, but it is still too early to know which company will dominate.

The artificial intelligence revolution created opportunities across many industries, including:

            Semiconductors

            Cloud computing

            Data centers

            Software

            Networking

            Energy infrastructure

Quantum computing could develop in a similar way.The long-term winners may include hardware manufacturers, software developers, cybersecurity companies, quantum networking businesses and specialized technology suppliers. Quantum Xtreme allows investors to focus on the larger quantum computing trend instead of attempting to perfectly predict one winner.

Is Quantum Computing a Good Long-Term Investment Theme?

A nine-foot-tall robot capable of carrying a human, walking on two or four legs, and delivering punches powerful enough to knock down walls sounds like something from a science-fiction movie. But Unitree’s GD01 is real. The massive robot was recently featured by TIME as part of an exclusive look inside the rapidly advancing humanoid robotics industry. Built by Chinese robotics company Unitree, the GD01 stands approximately nine feet tall, weighs half a ton, and includes a cockpit that can transport a human pilot. Unitree describes it as the world’s first mass-produced, transformable mecha robot.

The Closest Thing Yet to a Real-Life Transformer

Unitree founder and CEO Wang Xingxing reportedly drew inspiration from both combat sports and the large piloted robots seen in the movie Avatar. The result is a machine that looks unlike almost anything currently available in commercial robotics. The GD01 is built with titanium-alloy limbs, carbon-fiber protection, heavy-duty mechanical joints, and powerful red legs designed to support its enormous frame. It can move on two legs or transition to four, creating a machine that feels closer to a real-life Transformer than a traditional industrial robot. The GD01 may be Unitree’s most dramatic creation, but it is not necessarily the company’s most important. Smaller humanoid robots, including Unitree’s G1, may ultimately have a much greater impact on the global economy.

Humanoid Robots Are Moving Beyond Science Fiction

Unitree began with quadrupedal robot dogs before expanding into humanoid machines and human mobility systems.

The company shipped more than 5,500 robots in 2025, accounting for more than a quarter of the emerging global humanoid market. Its robots are currently being used by universities, developers, research institutions, commercial venues, and a growing number of industrial customers.

Unitree has also worked to make its technology more affordable. The company reduced the price of its G1 humanoid from approximately $16,000 to $13,500, while its smaller R1 model reportedly sells for less than $5,000.

This rapid decline in cost could help humanoid robots follow a path similar to personal computers, smartphones, drones, and electric vehicles. Early models may be expensive and limited, but increasing production, better software, and growing competition could eventually bring the technology into factories, businesses, and homes.

How Large Could the Humanoid Market Become?

The potential scale of the humanoid robotics industry is enormous.

Morgan Stanley predicts that as many as 13 million humanoid robots could be operating by 2035. By 2050, that number could potentially reach one billion, creating an industry valued at approximately $5 trillion. These machines could eventually perform tasks in manufacturing, warehouses, health care, agriculture, construction, maintenance, and household assistance. They may take on jobs that are repetitive, physically demanding, dangerous, or difficult for employers to fill. Humanoids could work around the clock, move through environments designed for people, and use many of the same tools humans already use. However, the technology is not fully ready for mass adoption. Today’s humanoids can perform impressive demonstrations, but many still struggle when their surroundings change. A robot may successfully complete a task in one controlled environment and then fail when an object is moved, the lighting changes, or the surface beneath it is different. Closing this gap between scripted demonstrations and true real-world intelligence is one of the industry’s greatest challenges.

The Race to Build the Robot Brain

Hardware is improving quickly, but the most important competition may be happening inside the robot. Humanoid companies are working to develop vision-language-action models that allow robots to understand verbal instructions, analyze their surroundings, and complete unfamiliar physical tasks. The goal is to create a robot that does not need every movement programmed in advance. Instead of receiving detailed instructions for how to grab an object, walk across a room, and place it on a shelf, a future humanoid could simply be told, “Put this away.” Wang believes the industry could be anywhere from two to 10 years away from its “ChatGPT moment”—an inflection point when humanoid robots become capable enough to begin entering commercial environments at a much larger scale.

A Global Competition Is Already Underway

Unitree is not alone. Tesla is developing its Optimus humanoid robot. Figure has deployed robots in automotive manufacturing environments. Agility Robotics has secured commercial deployments with major companies, and technology leaders including NVIDIA and Google DeepMind are developing the artificial intelligence systems needed to power physical machines. The race is particularly intense between the United States and China. China has invested heavily in artificial intelligence, robotics, manufacturing capacity, and supply chains. More than 140 Chinese companies are reportedly developing humanoid robots, while American companies continue to push forward with their own models, chips, software, and commercial deployments. The winner may not simply be the company with the strongest robot.

It could be the company that collects the most real-world data, develops the most capable artificial intelligence, lowers production costs, and scales manufacturing faster than its competitors.

           Why Are Watching Humanoid Robotics?

The GD01 is visually impressive, but its larger significance is what it represents. Humanoid robots are no longer confined to movies, laboratories, or theoretical demonstrations. Companies are building them, selling them, testing them in factories, and preparing them for broader commercial deployment. The industry remains early, and meaningful challenges involving safety, cybersecurity, cost, battery life, reliability, and artificial intelligence still need to be solved. But nearly every major technological revolution begins before the finished product is ready. The humanoid revolution may not happen overnight, but it is already being built. That is why humanoid robotics remains one of the major investment themes behind Xtreme Humanoid. We believe the companies developing the hardware, software, artificial intelligence, chips, sensors, and infrastructure behind these machines could help shape the next era of technology. The GD01 may look like a real-life Transformer today.

In the future, machines like it may represent something even larger: the beginning of a world where intelligent robots work alongside us.

The Solution Autopilot Aims to Provide

“What am I supposed to be doing with my investments?”

If you've ever stared at your brokerage app wondering whether you should be buying, selling, or just leaving everything be, you're not alone. It's one of the most common questions we hear, not from people who don't care about their money, but from people who care a lot and simply don't have the time, tools, or training to manage it with confidence. Between conflicting headlines, endless "hot stock" chatter, and the sheer number of choices out there, it's easy to end up doing nothing at all, which of course is its own kind of risk. Despite that investment uncertainty, maybe you’re not ready for the personalized advice that a financialadvisor provides on your wholistic financial picture.

That’s the gap that Autopilot is built to close. Autopilot’s app gives you access to professionally constructed, actively managed portfolios that align with your goals and risk tolerance. You simply link your brokerage account to the app and when you find a portfolio, or multiple, that fits your investment goals, your portfolio is automatically allocated, and for a monthly or yearly fee can be automatically updated each time the portfolio updates.

This isn't about handing your decisions to a black box either. You choose the portfolio strategy that fits where you are — for example in our offerings: Full Throttle for aggressive market investors, Glide Path for more moderately conservative investors, and even funds like Quantum Xtreme and Xtreme Humanoid for thematically-focused investors — and Autopilot handles the rebalancing and implementation from there, while the fund’s portfolio manager continues to monitor markets and adjust positioning as conditions change.

Of course, no investment approach — automated or otherwise — can promise specific returns, and all investing carries risk, including the potential loss of principal. Autopilot isn't personalized financial advice tailored to your complete financial picture; if your situation is more complex, our advisory team is always here to talk through what makes sense for you. And of course, there’s always room for managing your own investments, but if you've been asking yourself, "what am I even supposed to be doing right now," Autopilot is a straightforward solution to start putting a real strategy behind your money instead of leaving it to guesswork.

Apptronik’s Robot Park Shows Why Data Could Decide the Humanoid Race

Austin’s New Robot Training School Is Building the Future

Before humanoid robots can become part of the workforce, they need somewhere to learn. Apptronik is building that classroom in Austin, Texas, with the launch of Robot Park, a nearly 90,000-square-foot training facility designed to prepare humanoid robots for real-world jobs. Inside the facility, Apollo 2 robots practice tasks such as moving boxes, sorting items, loading conveyor belts, and adapting when their surroundings change. Apptronik CEO Jeff Cardenas calls Robot Park a “physical AI data factory” because every task, movement, and mistake creates valuable information that can help the robots improve.

That real-world data may ultimately become the most important advantage in the humanoid industry. Apptronik is working with Google DeepMind to use data collected by Apollo 2 robots to train the embodied-AI models that will power Apollo 3, the company’s next-generation commercial robot. Unlike Apollo 2, which has largely served as a testing and development platform, Apollo 3 is expected to become Apptronik’s first true product. The robot is planned in both wheeled and bipedal versions, giving businesses the ability to choose between efficient industrial mobility and the flexibility of a robot that can walk through environments designed for humans.

For Xtreme Humanoid, Robot Park represents exactly why conviction in this theme continues to grow. The humanoid race will not be won by the company with the most impressive demonstration. It may be won by the company that collects the best data, builds the strongest AI, and proves that its robots can perform useful work every day. Apptronik’s expansion shows that the industry is moving beyond prototypes and toward commercial deployment. As humanoid robots begin entering factories, warehouses, healthcare settings, and eventually homes, Xtreme Humanoid remains focused on the companies helping build the technology, intelligence, and infrastructure behind this next industrial revolution.
